Tim Lamb Centre gives children a chance to play with renewed inclusive outdoor space
NorthumberlandThe Tim Lamb Centre, run by Pathways 4 All in North Tyneside, has been awarded a £10,000 grant from Wooden Spoon Northumberland to refurbish its outdoor play area. This project will help update, repair and replace existing equipment, creating a safer, more accessible and engaging environment for children and young people and their families.
The improvements will help ensure that children of all abilities can continue to enjoy the benefits of outdoor play, giving them a chance to have fun, explore, develop new skills and make memories in a welcoming environment where they can feel included.
A space where every child can play
Over the years, the centre has grown into an important resource for families, offering a range of specialist facilities, including soft play, a sensory room, indoor trampolines, a toddler playroom, teenage and games rooms, and a fully enclosed outdoor playground with inclusive play and sensory equipment.
The outdoor play area, originally developed to give children greater access to outdoor activities, has served thousands of children and families. However, after more than 10 years of use, much of the equipment is now in need of renewal due to general wear and tear.
With support from Wooden Spoon’s £10,000 grant, Pathways 4 All will be able to update and repair existing equipment, as well as replace parts of the play area. These improvements will create a safer and more accessible space, tailored to the varied needs of the children and young people who visit the centre.
The renewed outdoor environment will provide opportunities for physical development, sensory exploration and social interaction, allowing children to play, enjoy the outdoors and spend quality time with family and friends.
Making play accessible for every family
For many families with children living with a disability or disadvantage, finding somewhere they can relax and enjoy time together without worrying about accessibility or feeling judged can be challenging. The Tim Lamb Centre provides a welcoming environment where children can enjoy activities at their own pace, while parents and carers can connect with other families who understand their experiences.
Supporting the refurbishment of the outdoor play area will help Pathways 4 All continue providing these opportunities for the approximately 3,000 families it supports across the North East.
Wooden Spoon is proud to support this project, helping to ensure that more children and young people living with a disability or facing disadvantage can experience the enjoyment, freedom and benefits of playing outdoors.
